Setup Steps

General information only. Confirm current requirements with each agency before listing.

Bradenton (Manatee County)

Complete these in order. City steps apply inside city limits only.

  1. Florida Sales Tax Registration (Florida Department of Revenue)

    Register with the state to collect and remit Florida sales tax on rentals.

  2. Manatee County Tourist Development Tax

    Register with Manatee County to collect and remit tourist development tax on short stays.

  3. Florida DBPR Vacation Rental License (Dwelling)

    Get the state license required to offer a dwelling as a vacation rental.

  4. City of Bradenton Local Business Tax Receipt (only inside city limits)

    Get a local business tax receipt, required inside city limits only, before the rental operates.

  5. City of Bradenton Vacation Rental Certificate of Registration (only inside city limits)

    Register the vacation rental with the city, required inside city limits only, so the certificate can be issued.

  6. List Only After the Certificate Is Issued

    Wait to list until the city issues the certificate, which applies inside city limits only.

Miramar Beach / South Walton (Walton County)

Complete these in order. The county certificate applies to single-family homes only.

  1. Florida Sales Tax Registration (Florida Department of Revenue)

    Register with the state to collect and remit Florida sales tax on rentals.

  2. Walton County Tourist Development Tax

    Register with Walton County to collect and remit tourist development tax on short stays.

  3. Florida DBPR Vacation Rental License (Condo or Dwelling)

    Get the state license required to offer a condo or a dwelling as a vacation rental.

  4. Walton County Short-Term Vacation Rental Certificate (single-family homes only)

    Apply for the county short-term rental certificate, required for single-family homes only.

Optional reference if you need to confirm the property is in Walton County.

Destin (Okaloosa County)

Complete these in order. Register with the city before you list.

  1. Florida Sales Tax Registration (Florida Department of Revenue)

    Register with the state to collect and remit Florida sales tax on rentals.

  2. Okaloosa County Tourist Development Tax

    Register with Okaloosa County to collect and remit tourist development tax on short stays.

  3. Florida DBPR Vacation Rental License (Dwelling)

    Get the state license required to offer a dwelling as a vacation rental.

  4. City of Destin Business Tax Receipt + STR Registration

    Get a city business tax receipt and register the short-term rental with Destin before you list.

  5. Check HOA Rules

    Confirm minimum stay, guest caps, parking and rental registration with the association before you list.
